Winterbourne, 10th August 2026
Leader: Peter Bryant
There was a good turnout for this new walk - 16 members enjoyed sunny and dry conditions. Having explored Winterbourne’s ‘secret passage’, the party headed for Winterbourne Church, seeing a couple of Chiffchaff and some Swallows en route. It was quiet too at Monk’s Pool but there were more small birds flitting about, including Long-tailed Tits, when we stopped for refreshments in the shady Bradley Brook LNR.
The return route passed by the interesting Frome Valley Growing Project (where we saw a Buzzard) and concluded in the Winterbourne Community Woodland; a Green Woodpecker was heard giving its plaintive call. Butterflies seen included Holly Blue, Clouded Yellow & Small Copper. The large dragonflies over the small pond in the woodland were Emperor Dragonflies; Common Darter and Migrant Hawker were also seen during the trip.
