If the origins, meanings, uses and abuses of our fascinating written and spoken tongue are of interest to you, then this is the group for you. Whilst occasionally we enjoy talks led by ourselves or outside speakers, at some point in most meetings we all get involved and chip-in with our personal knowledge and literary preferences. Over the last year, we have looked at Rhetoric (some of the techniques that make good writing memorable) and delved into the world of Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales. Quite a contrast. May's meeting is about punctuation and capitalisation.
Very friendly, very informal. We meet at 2pm on the second Monday of the month at St Mary's Church Hall (behind the Health Centre in Thornbury).
Whether you have a degree in English Literature, or you just use English on a day-to-day basis, or even if English is a second language for you, you can be assured of a warm welcome. Just contact: Bob Dale by phone or by email using the link above
